An unusual instrument themed cake request… I see lots of guitars, the odd drum kit, maybe even a piano, but this was my first ever accordion so naturally I was thrilled to make one from sugar!
The cake inside is classic vanilla sponge with a filling of raspberry jam and luxurious vanilla buttercream. The cake was covered in crisp white sugarpaste as the foundation for the design. The accordion itself is made from modelling paste and the dotty detail piped with royal icing.The black keys were a little fiddly but this was really fun to make and the gentleman ordering the cake was happy for me to play which is always a bonus!
The message is piped in white then painted very carefully with edible gold paint.
A sprinkling of edible music notes and a band of classic black and ivory ribbon brought this cake together nicely!
